Last week I had a chance to participate in an event that reminded me how lucky and grateful I am to live and work in Boca Raton. I ran in the first annual Devil Dog 5k produced by Evolution Fitness with all profits to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. It was a great experience of running outdoors and exercise on a beautiful day for a worthy cause. I was happy to participate and even happier that I set a new personal best for myself.
Evolution Fitness runs this annual 5k to benefit the Wounded Warrior project, a national organization that provides care and aid to wounded service members and their families. More than just a 5k race, the Evolution Fitness team along with other sponsors make it a real family event. There is live music, medals to competitors and lots of other activities.
The race takes place in South County Park in West Boca Raton. South County Park, officially known as Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, is a huge park with over 900 acres of recreational space including golf course, amphitheater, boat lake, water park, tennis center, nature walk and many other facilities. It is the perfect place for an event like the Devil Dog 5k.
Evolution Fitness is a new breed of fitness center that emphasizes different kinds of exercise rather than the usual weight and cardio machines. Much like Crossfit and some of the other similar programs it is a great way to get in and keep in shape.
Being located here in beautiful Boca Raton many of their classes and activities are actually done outside. One Sunday a month they have a boot camp program open to all at the Delray Market Place in Delray Beach, followed by brunch.
I try to get in to Evolution for a class at least once a week. But to be honest, with so many choices here in the Boca area I participate in several different fitness programs. Of course many of the communities have their own gyms and fitness activities, so you don't have to leave your neighborhood to stay in shape in idyllic Boca Raton.
Beyond all of the great fitness options here though I was really proud of how the community turned out to support a worthy charity. We are all busy with our every day lives, but give the people of Boca the chance to support a good cause and a chance to stay fit, you get a great turnout and better time. More than just the runners, the entire Boca health and wellness community was out in force. Healthy food vendors, health and wellness vendors, running clubs, juice bars, all associated with a healthy lifestyle came out as part of the community to support the community. Best of all we have these kinds of events all year round with great weather.
Does this sound like the kind of place you would like you and your family to live in? Why not, it sounds great and it is. If you are interested in moving to this area and want help with where to look for homes, what fitness programs and gyms are available, as well as schools, churches and synagogues, you should ask me.Asa long time resident and professional realtor I can help you make your new fit lifestyle a reality here in Boca Raton.
